Evie Nelson

Evie is 6 years old and has been through so much in just

her short time on earth. Evie had her first open heart surgery

at just 19 months old. She had been diagnosed with A VSD when she had been born.

She ended up having surgery at diagnosis but suffered a cardiac arrest and was

placed into a coma (ecmo) for 35 days. Kirsty, Evie's mum spent 3 months

in Alder Hey Children's Hospital, and now Evie has a Mechanical Mitral Valve.

Evie needs to be on blood thinners for the rest of her life.

She is a very happy child and has no fear. She is very resilient.

Evie wears her heart scar with pride. Evie recently had a day trip to Alder Hey

to be shown what the valves look like. Evie was super excited

Evie will no doubt have to undergo further surgeries, but until then, just look

at that fabulous smile on her face and how beautiful she looks.
